« I dream of a society that is free of discrimination. »

« I wanted Rwandan women to have the same chances as men in regard to the participation in local development. »

Florida in few words: From a family of cattle owners, Florida goes to Kigali for social assistant studies. She worked at a public health centre for many years. After the genocide she wanted to support the so numerous women who weakened and made vulnerable by the war and who often were lonely. She integrated the Amizero association (Solidarity for the progress of Rwandan women). With members of Amizero she created a company to produce and to sell bio-energy.

Nothing is lost, everything is transformed

Bio-energy

Volunteering, self-dependent and stimulated by a burning envy to help local women in Rwanda, Florida participated in the design and the creation of a company on bio energy. The idea is about transforming domestic wastes in bio-energy. Known as “boulets”, the small pieces are resistant, ecologically friendly and they are cheaper than the traditional charcoal.

Giving a chance to women

The process is not only innovative and environmentally interesting, it is also an opportunity for women to improve their life conditions. In a society where women are still discriminated the project provides them an employment and some social monitoring.

Development at the service of the community

The company developed fast: the wastes that we used to collect and carry in hands are now transported in tracks. The profit was invested and that enables us to increase the income of the company. That facilitated us to build some local infrastructure for the community.

In brief: The company has employment to 80 women. The profit was used for local infrastructure and to fund social activities like schools for kids, alphabetization for adults, creation of cooperatives,…

Florida is a force. That is why she can move through her entrepreneurship to make women happy and self confident.
